How to Spend Less time on Your Phone & Social Media

How to Spend Less time on Your Phone & Social Media

What is the first thing you do after waking up? For most, if not everyone, the answer would be grab your phone and check for notifications. Throughout the day, we continue to check the same 3-5 apps periodically until its time to go to bed again. Does this cycle sound familiar? The number of hours spent looking at your phone might shock you!

A recent study shows the average person spends around 4 hours a day on their phones, half of which are spent on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat & Youtube).

We can think of a few better things you can do in 2 hours.

As a family-owned and operated company, we understand the importance of balance and spending time with loved ones. We have created some tips on how you can minimize screen time and be more present in the real world.

Catching Up with Friends

Have you ever gone out with friends, excited to catch up over drinks or dinner, when all of a sudden everyone is on their phones? Next time you make time with loved ones, make sure your phone is tucked away in your purse or somewhere out of sight. This way you can enjoy some quality time and real conversations with the people that matter the most.

Reading a Book

I know I find myself scrolling aimlessly through social media before bed every night. Meanwhile, I have a stack of unread books sitting on my shelf. Next time you catch yourself lounging in bed or in your couch just looking at your phone, grab that book you've been meaning to read instead. While you're at it, slip into your favorite pair of slipper socks and brew a tea or coffee. There, that's way better!

Take a Walk or Hike

Whether you go for a stroll at a nearby park, walk the dog around the neighborhood, or you're feeling more adventurous to do a hike - time spent outdoors, is time well spent! Take a breather and relax in nature, you're only allowed to look at your phone for taking pictures of the beautiful scenery.
